All you need to know about boat licences and boat compliance

There is a multitude of different boat types: Freycinet commercial, self-propelled, pusher, yacht...

For each type, there are specific regulations, in particular with regard to operating licences and technical compliance.

Cartes des services instructeurs Since 1 January 2008, the old supervisory commissions have been replaced by six instructor departments: See the map of instructor departments. It is these departments that issue operating licences depending on their jurisdiction.

The Nancy supervisory commission no longer exists. Its jurisdiction has been divided as follows:

  • Strasbourg instructor department: Haute-Marne (52); Meurthe-et-Moselle (54); Meuse (55); Moselle (57); Vosges (88)
  • Lille instructor department: Ardennes (08)
  • Paris instructor department: Marne (51)

The concept of certified expert no longer exists but the responsibility of the supervising bodies has been strengthened.
